Ok so my list is going to be pretty unique. But I must start with pointing out that I am a Rollerblader, and have been for many, many years and there has been a total of 2 good rollerblading games ever made I think, which is a shame but thats life.
I've listed the games basically ranked with a mix of how much I like them, but also how much I've played them and how much I got out of them. I would also like to not that I do not currentally own Ico or Shadow of the Collosus but will be picking them up some time soon.
10. Grand Theft Auto 3
Was a big fan of the GTA games back on the PC with the orignal and then GTA2. Then when GTA3 came out it really, really put it on the map as one of the best games out there at the time. I've played this game soo much and it was one of the reasons I owned a PS2.
9. Mashed
This is one of the more recent PS2 games on my list, and the reason for it being so high is this. Micro Machines was awsome and Mashed is basicaly a next gen Micro Machines. This game can only really be played with friends, and can be used to start a night out. Many drinks and shots have been consumed thanks to this game.
8. Tony Hawks: Underground
The only reason this game is on this list is becasue its probaly the best game I've ever played to drink to. Playing a game of Horse is the best way to use up a bottle of Vodka. The number of nights in with mates getting smashed ranks in the hundreds. This game usualy ended up being the 'After party' of a night out.
7. Grand Theft Auto: Vice City
It has one of the best soundtracks of pretty much any game I've ever played. Add to that it had 2 brand new bigger islands for you to explore with 3 times the number of weapons, motor bikes and the ability to change your clothes. This game was epic on a whole new level, and is one of the best 1980s experiances going, even if it does rip off scar face.
6. Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater
Ok I admit it, I'm a massive MGS fanboy and unlike most MGS fanboys MGS3 was my least favorite of the serise, but that said its still an easy 6th place on this list and should be on pretty much every list of top10 PS2 games. It should also be mentioed that there was an 'add-on pack' for this that redid the game with a fully adjustable 3D camera, online play and some side missions. Which gave pretty amazing value even if the PS2 wasn't the best online console. The graphics on this should also be mentioed as I think its probaly the best looking PS2 game to date.
5. Gran Torismo 3: A-Spec
Of all the GT games this for me was the best. Becasue it took me so long to get to the final races by the time I had gotten to the end races and gotten my S Licence GT4 had come and gone and I was onto GTA5p on the PS3. That said this is probaly the best racing game I've ever played. Its lack of damage and some odd physic's stopped it from being an unplayable sim, but instead turned it into the best mix of arcade racing and realistic sim game that IMO has ever been made.
4. Ōkami
This is probaly the best example of Cell Shading that I've ever come across and one of the best RPG games I've ever come across. It mixes so many new and interesting idea's into one game, that on the surface seems pretty simple but its actually very deep. The story is also pretty odd and seems to never end. Every time you think you've won and thats game over the story then twists and there is something else, something bigger. The dev team have said that they would like to make a sequal, but sales of it where so poor that Capcom is atm undecided on weather they will be funding it. But I can't see how a squal could be made to fit with the story. But hell the story is the not the reason why its so far up the list and you'd be damn right in thinking that I want an Ōkami 2.
3. Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas
For me, this is the best GTA game ever made. It has everything you could possibly ever want in a GTA or any open world game. It even has something you wouldn't think you'd want until you play GTA:SA! The map is huge, I mean huge. Bigger than most games this gen. Its better than GTA4 by quite a margin, and probaly bigger than Fallout 3 too. There is also no load points, non on a PS2 this is crazy talk and just goes to show 1, how powerful the PS2 is/was and 2, how talented the guys are Rockstar are for managing to sqweeze all that out of it. Every time I pick up and play GTA4 it just makes me sad, so instead I put up my PS2 controler and fire up San Andreas and everything seems ok again.
2. Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons Of Liberty
Not many MGS fanboys (like me) liked MGS2 and I'm not sure why, it shows you first hand how much of a bad-ass Snake really is. Not only that using Raiden you get to do all kinds of acrobatics. For me this is one of the best MGS games. The only other thing that can be said is that if you havn't played it, you really should.
1. Rolling
Ok, this is my curve ball. I'm gona break it down like this. I rollerblade, there are no good rollerblading games out apart from Rolling, which I must point out, isn't a very good game. BUT, I have been playing this in freeskate mode for about 2-3hours a day, every day since its launch which was late 2003, thats almost six years....SIX YEARS
